Build process

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

I have decided to take pictures of my current build to give you an idea of how frames are made.
These photo’s are of a road bike made for Greg. A pretty and classic styled smooth riding steed.
(Click on the picture to get to the set )

I will post new photos as I go along.

Biketoberfest

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

It happened, and we heckled and drank. Quite a few people turned out and I even had my own peanut gallery of buddies behind my booth table.

Check out Griz’s track bike all built up! A lugged stem is soon to come. Go MOTORDOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He assured me that he was “German”

Heidi’s bike ready for paint. I love making women’s bikes. They can be feminine and  bad ass, and in my experience most women could benefit from a custom fit  bike.

Yep, Mark from Belladonna is always my best compadre at these things. I have not seen that bike since.

Dave from TI CYCLES showing the newbies how its done!

All in all it was a great time. Got to hang out with friends, drink good beer, and sit back and people watch.

Josh’s ultralight road bike

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Josh and I finished building up his bike this afternoon so he could ride his new machine to work. He has been riding a fixed gear exclusively for about 8 years or so, so I am sure it’s going to take a bit to learn how to coast.  I love the stem. It is a heart melter.

Happy customer!

Josh said it was necessary. Keepin it old school.

Elicia’s wedding

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Congrats Elicia and Andy! What a fun wedding and serious BBQ.

And guess what,  Andy gets a Milholland adventure touring mountain bike from Elicia.  Best wife ever.

Bike parking.

These folks are the real deal. Bike tourers, advocates, frame builders and such. Good people.

Happy birthday Ammon!

This is my beloved brother and best friend Ammon and his new wife Gina.

Ammon built my website and has a great beard.

A look at lug carving

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

A look at lugs from start to finish. I didn’t manage to record even close to all of the steps but it is still a neat progression to see.

This is where I lose myself. I always do a bit of research and dig deep, get nervous, and sketch out some ideas. I keep pages of lug drawings all over my shop for ideas.

and after many steps, some tricks, a lot of filing, out come nice and even,  classy and fast lugs.

New toy and other fun stuff!

Monday, August 24th, 2009

So thanks to a wonderful little lady in Florida I now have a camera again.  Just in time to ramp up for the Oregon Handbuilt Bike show.

I am working on Heidi and Gina’s bikes. Greg, you are next on the list. Josh’s ultralight road bike is in paint and almost finished. I cant wait to see that lugged stem! Steve’s bike is next in line for paint. And then maybe a new mountain frame for myself!

This is what $900 of pure love looks like:A

Portland City Club

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

This is the only picture I could find of the Portland City Club meeting “It’s all about the bike”. The event was  filled with progressive speakers and attendees. I had a great time talking to other local builders. They are all such cool cats to hang out with and have amazing skills. You can check out the MP3 @ http://www.pdxcityclub.org/forums-events/friday-forums.php

I was pleased to hear the general thought of the speakers. City and transportation development effects everyones physical and mental health.
